Cognitive/Perceptual assessments and correlation with driving performance (June 9, 2026)

Includes a Live Web Event on 06/09/2026 at 12:00 PM (EDT)

Presented by: Ana Holowaychuk

Occupational therapists working in all settings are being asked to address driving as a component of their clinical practice (CAOT, 2009). Specialized driving assessment is not widely available and can be costly, therefore it is important to complete cognitive and perceptual screening to determine who may benefit from further comprehensive assessment (Scott et al., 2021).  This webinar will explore assessment tools frequently used in clinical practice to screen individuals who are interested in resuming driving following a medical change. Participants will be provided with information from recent literature along with the results of a research study completed with two driving assessment programs in Alberta.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Explore occupational therapy assessment tools used to screen cognition and perception.
  2. Review data regarding performance on the assessment and outcome of on-road driving evaluation.
  3. Identify assessment tools which were more predictive of the outcome of on-road assessment.
